The Master of Arts in English program centers on the power of written language. Participants develop advanced skills in literary analysis and scholarly writing about literature. The curriculum features demanding coursework that exposes students to contemporary research while equipping them with diverse theoretical and historical approaches to literary study. To graduate with an MA in English, candidates must successfully complete a two-part comprehensive examination, with the additional option of completing a thesis. The program provides opportunities for specialization in rhetoric and preparation for teaching writing at the college level, while also offering strong foundations for those pursuing doctoral studies.
U.S. bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, or the completion of a 4-year bachelor’s degree from a recognized, accredited, and approved institution from a country outside of the U.S. Applicants must have 3.0 grade point average in English or literature courses; a minimum of 24 semester hours of acceptable undergraduate upper-division course work in English or other literary studies; earned 2 semesters (3 quarters) credit in foreign language course or have the equivalent fluency as attested to by a credible academic source.
English Language Proficiency: IELTS: 6.5; TOEFL – 102 (IBT), paper based – 610, Computer based – 253; Pearson Test of English (PTE) – 53.
