The Southeastern U.S. has seen remarkable population growth over the last twenty years. New residents, including immigrants and their families, are enriching our neighborhoods and educational institutions. Yet schools face a critical need for educators trained to support immigrant youth, children of immigrants, and adult English learners. UNCW's Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) program provides multiple pathways to address this gap, offering opportunities for professionals to make a difference. The M.Ed. curriculum caters to certified K-12 educators pursuing advanced ESL training, as well as current ESL teachers aiming to deepen their knowledge in areas like second language learning, cultural diversity, language structure, and specialized teaching methods for English learners.
This program also serves individuals pursuing international English teaching opportunities where certification isn't required.
