The Jazz Studies concentration within the Bachelor of Music program, provided by the School of Music and Dance, is designed for aspiring professional jazz artists and composers. The curriculum focuses on jazz improvisation techniques, performance styles, arranging/composition methods, and teaching approaches. Participants benefit from intensive one-on-one lessons and various ensemble experiences that enhance their improvisational skills. The university's Bay Area setting offers abundant performance opportunities in local venues. A culminating senior recital is mandatory alongside standard coursework requirements.
Students must Earn a high school diploma, or equivalent and earn the equivalent of a U.S. 3.0 grade point average (GPA) or an average of “B” grades. Successfully complete three years of college preparatory mathematics with a minimum grade of “C-” or better.
English Language Requirements: IELTS - 6.0, TOEFL – 61 (IBT), Paper based – 500; Pearson Test of English (PTE) – 44.
