This coursework meets San José State University's Bachelor of Arts in English requirements. The BA in English with Preparation for Teaching, provided by the Department of English and Comparative Literature, is recognized by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) as fulfilling subject matter preparation for a single subject teaching credential. Students not pursuing this degree program or those seeking credentials in other subject areas must pass all sections of the relevant CCTC-approved subject matter exams.
Achieving the minimum GPA and finishing the program does not ensure admission to the credential program. All applicants, including program completers, must satisfy credential program requirements and go through the admission screening process. Students must Earn a high school diploma, or equivalent and earn the equivalent of a U.S. 3.0 grade point average (GPA) or an average of “B” grades. Successfully complete three years of college preparatory mathematics with a minimum grade of “C-” or better.
English Language Requirements: IELTS - 6.0, TOEFL – 61 (IBT), Paper based – 500; Pearson Test of English (PTE) – 44.
