The Graduate Program in Social, Personality, and Affective Science (currently known as the Social Psychology Graduate Program) at San Francisco State University equips students for professional careers in research, teaching, and applied social psychology at the Master's level, while also providing a strong foundation for those pursuing doctoral studies. Our program is dedicated to academic rigor, research that serves the public good, and enhancing diversity within our field - which examines how personal thoughts, emotions, and behaviors interact with individual differences, belief systems, interpersonal relationships, group dynamics, and societal structures.
The curriculum focuses on immersing students in social/personality psychology literature and affective science methodologies, while developing advanced communication skills and professional research experience. Students complete 34 semester units of coursework, including a thesis requirement. Our program integrates classroom learning with hands-on research opportunities and practical experiences in both laboratory and real-world settings.
