We are dedicated to equipping students to become skilled early childhood educators and professionals serving children and families in educational and community settings. Our department emphasizes social-emotional growth as the cornerstone for all developmental areas, including physical, cognitive, motor, and language skills. This interdisciplinary program operates on the principle that development occurs throughout life within the framework of family, community, and societal influences.
With a strong focus on preventive approaches, we provide students with practical, community-oriented learning opportunities. Through supervised fieldwork, students gain experience in various settings including community organizations, child development programs, the SDSU Children's Center, and numerous school districts throughout the San Diego region.
