San Diego State University's Biology Department provides outstanding degree programs instructed by more than 35 dedicated, research-focused faculty members. We support and guide around 1,300 undergraduate Biology and Microbiology majors, 80 minors, 150 graduate students, and numerous students from other disciplines. SDSU delivers diverse course offerings in cellular/molecular biology, ecology, evolution, and related areas. Each semester, undergraduates can choose from over 50 courses, most featuring class sizes under 30 students or lab sections with fewer than 25 participants. Our department stands out with significantly more lab and field-based courses than comparable institutions. Graduate students teach all introductory labs (never undergraduates), while professors personally lead many advanced lab courses.
Our strong focus on laboratory work, practical experiences, and research opportunities equips graduates exceptionally well for biology careers, health professions, or advanced academic pursuits.
