The Environmental Social Work Specialization is designed for innovative students passionate about addressing environmental justice at the community level, including equitable access to clean air, water, and participation in environmental decision-making. This program equips students with expertise in environmental challenges, community engagement strategies, and effective advocacy techniques. Participants complete two sustainability-focused social work electives along with a community organizing course from the School of Social Work, providing real-world application opportunities. During their final year, students undertake field internships (SW489A/SW489B) with environmental organizations serving local communities. The specialization accepts only 1-3 students annually, with Spanish language proficiency required.
