This program trains medical assistants to master knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors needed for the field. Students will gain expertise in both office administration and clinical tasks for physician practices. The curriculum covers manual scheduling, bookkeeping, medical records management, and insurance processing, along with computerized office systems for scheduling, billing, collections, and electronic health records. Clinical training includes performing EKGs, urinalysis, blood draws, injections, surgical assistance, casting, wound care, eye/ear procedures, catheterization, vital signs monitoring, pulmonary testing, infant measurements, and more.
Students can earn either a Certificate Level II or Associate of Applied Science degree. Medical assistants find employment across healthcare settings, primarily in doctors' offices.
