This program thoroughly equips you for a career as an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter or Deaf Support Specialist serving the Deaf community. The immersive curriculum covers ASL language acquisition, interpretation techniques, and deep immersion into Deaf cultural studies.
As an interpretation student, you'll develop essential competencies to bridge communication between Deaf and hearing individuals. The program provides comprehensive training in ASL fluency, professional interpreting standards, cultural awareness, and specialized application environments.

The Deaf Support Specialist track prepares you to serve as a paraprofessional supporting Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals with workplace integration and daily living skills. While gaining interpreting knowledge, your core focus will be advocacy, employment coaching, and mentoring across educational and community contexts.

Earning your associate degree in ASL: Sign Language Interpretation qualifies you for entry-level interpreting positions in diverse environments, from schools to community organizations. With strong industry demand, graduates enjoy flexible employment options. The ASL: Deaf Support Specialist degree opens doors to roles as advocates, job coaches, mentors, and paraprofessionals.
Our interpretation program addresses the growing need for qualified ASL interpreters. As the only Texas program mandating State Certification Exam passage for graduation, SAC ensures you'll enter the workforce fully credentialed. Additionally, ASL coursework satisfies foreign language requirements and transfers as university credit.
