Saint Louis University's 15-credit post-baccalaureate certificate in inclusive education features four courses covering key elements of inclusive teaching: managing challenging behaviors, understanding mental health concepts, implementing differentiated instruction, and establishing system-wide support for special needs learners. Participants engage in a yearlong, field-based practicum with coaching, complemented by a professional development lab on SLU's campus. The program concludes with students presenting their work at a semester-end academic symposium. This graduate certificate equips educators and advocates with strategies to address the social-emotional, behavioral, and mental health requirements of students, especially those with potential or confirmed disabilities.
The curriculum emphasizes practical approaches through courses in behavior management, differentiated teaching methods, and mental health awareness, helping educators effectively support students experiencing trauma while reducing professional fatigue and prioritizing personal wellness. Additionally, the program's distinctive coaching framework offers teachers and community partners direct, practical guidance for everyday classroom challenges.
