Saint Louis University provides a philosophy certificate for ministry through its College of Philosophy and Letters, tailored for individuals pursuing Catholic priesthood who already hold a bachelor's degree. This 38-credit program meets the philosophical prerequisites for ordination set by the Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Society of Jesus. While undergraduate courses typically fulfill certificate requirements, graduate-level courses may be permitted with the dean's approval. Most requirements accept transfer credits, but students must complete at least 16 credits after enrolling at the College of Philosophy and Letters, including specialized ethics/social analysis and capstone courses. The dean determines which courses fulfill each requirement. The three ethics/social analysis courses are chosen based on the student's capstone project focus and may incorporate non-philosophy disciplines.
