Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Social Work program at Saint Louis University who wish to continue for their M.S.W. can combine both degrees in as little as five years. In their junior year's spring semester, students choose an M.S.W. concentration from three options: clinical practice, community and organizational work, or applied behavior analysis. The 42-credit social work curriculum includes core subjects like human behavior in social contexts, plus three specialized practice courses focusing on work with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. Seniors complete two semesters of supervised fieldwork at a social service agency under an experienced practitioner. The 120-credit degree also incorporates science, mathematics, humanities, and elective courses. SLU's M.S.W. program features foundational generalist coursework, advanced concentration-specific classes, and practical field experience. The foundational courses establish core social work principles and techniques for engaging with diverse populations and social systems.
