The Bachelor of Science in Data Science stands as one of SLU's most challenging degree programs. This curriculum blends thoughtfully chosen computer science, statistics, and mathematics classes with four semesters of practical applications and culminating projects. Graduates gain both theoretical knowledge and real-world skills in data cleaning, visualization, analysis, and reporting. Within the major, students can select electives to focus more deeply on either computer science or statistical components of data science. The 30-credit bioinformatics and computational biology track caters to students with backgrounds in life sciences, mathematics, computer science, health fields, engineering, or statistics. The program combines core courses that establish essential bioinformatics and computational biology knowledge with specialized electives tailored to individual interests. Full-time participants typically finish in 1.5 to 2 years, while part-time enrollment options are also available.
