Criminology and criminal justice (CCJ) are academic disciplines that take an interdisciplinary approach to analyzing the roots and patterns of criminal activity, along with the systems designed to address it. Earning a degree in criminology and criminal justice offers students a thorough understanding of criminal behavior, victimization processes, policing, judicial operations, legal frameworks, and both community-based and institutional rehabilitation. Aligned with Saint Louis University's Jesuit values, the CCJ program aims to enhance justice systems and, more crucially, communities by addressing the underlying causes of crime while emphasizing compassion for victims, offenders, and professionals. This program suits students pursuing careers in legal fields, law enforcement across various government levels, correctional work with youth or adults, or those planning advanced studies in graduate school or law.
