An English major equips students with valuable skills, insights, and comprehension that serve as strong foundations for diverse career paths including education, law, business, medicine, government, journalism, editing, publishing, and more. Exploring language and literature enables students to deepen their self-awareness and global perspective. From timeless classics to modern works and literary criticism, these courses cultivate essential abilities for articulate expression and thoughtful examination of personal and societal concerns. The curriculum fosters strong communication skills while providing crucial cultural and historical context, preparing students to engage as discerning contributors to contemporary dialogues.
With the exception of ENGL 201, no English course can be applied toward both a major and minor in English or count for dual English majors. However, this restriction doesn't affect interdisciplinary or certificate programs. Required course substitutions may be approved by the English department chair or their appointed representative.
