The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology provides two graduate degree options: the Master of Science in Chemistry (MSCHEM), which involves completing a thesis and publication, and the Master of Chemistry (MCHEM), which substitutes thesis requirements with 12 additional credit hours of coursework.
Each MCHEM candidate develops a personalized study plan in collaboration with their academic advisor, who must be a faculty member within RHIT's Chemistry department.
MSCHEM students work with their advisory committee chair and members to design their academic path.
An MSCHEM advisory committee includes: (1) a primary CHEM faculty advisor for thesis guidance, (2) another CHEM faculty member, and (3) a faculty representative from outside the Chemistry department.
Both programs expand upon the fundamental knowledge gained during undergraduate studies.
These degrees - the Master of Chemistry and Master of Science in Chemistry - aim to accelerate professional growth in chemistry through advanced coursework and focused exploration of field-specific challenges and subjects.
Student Outcomes define the expected competencies graduates should possess.
Graduates will exhibit proficiency in conducting and presenting independent research or composing technical reviews on specialized topics.
Graduates will effectively communicate and analyze advanced subject matter for both expert and general audiences.
