The Master of Music in Voice program aims to develop accomplished performers with a technically sound and musically sophisticated approach to vocal artistry. This curriculum highlights the significance of professional collaboration, a well-rounded educational background, and comprehensive knowledge of vocal repertoire across all genres and historical periods.The program's key goals include:Enhancing technical and artistic proficiency through rigorous study and performance of diverse repertoire;
Offering consistent solo and ensemble performance opportunities, such as OperaFest, CCPA Opera productions, and public recitals;
Developing teamwork and partnership abilities;
Encouraging intellectual curiosity and research skills through academic studies.Our Voice department treats each student as a unique artist, equipping them for successful careers in today's musical landscape. At CCPA, you'll receive intensive training from renowned Artist faculty through private lessons and coaching, gain essential knowledge in music theory, history, and languages, explore professional development and arts entrepreneurship, participate in cutting-edge productions led by industry leaders, and join a vibrant network of successful arts professionals.
All Classical Voice auditions must be accompanied by a pianist. The CCPA Enrollment Office will provide an accompanist for all auditions in Chicago, although applicants may bring their own (except Opera Diploma auditions). Accompanists will NOT be provided at regional auditions in the U.S. or Asia. All voice applicants auditioning regionally must provide and pay for their own accompanist.
All repertoire is to be performed from memory. No pre-screening recordings are required for undergraduate or masters level auditions.
Freshman (BM): The applicant should sing three (3) appropriate pieces from classical repertoire across styles and languages (if possible) that demonstrate student ability and training to this point. Songs preferred. Golden Age Musical Theatre (pre-1965, or in the manner of) sung in a 'legit' vocal style may be included. Applicants are encouraged to present repertoire that demonstrates the quality and potential of the voice.
Sophomore (BM): Three pieces: a song in English; a song in Italian; a song in German, French, or Spanish.
Junior/Senior (BM) or Graduate (MM): Four Pieces: Two chansons or two lieder, or one of each; a song by an English or American composer; and an opera, concert or oratorio aria. Opera Diploma: Please visit the Opera Diploma program page for pre-screening, application, and audition information.
