This program offers dual New York State certification in both deaf education and a secondary subject area (mathematics, science, history, or English language arts). The MS in Secondary Education for Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing Students welcomes deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing individuals with a strong commitment to teaching. Participants in this program will obtain dual certification, qualifying them to teach both hearing and deaf students in secondary school subjects, along with K-12 deaf education instruction. Qualification Requirements

To be considered for admission to the Secondary Education of Students Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing MS program, candidates must fulfill the following requirements:

Complete an online graduate application.
Submit copies of official transcript(s) (in English) of all previously completed undergraduate and graduate course work, including any transfer credit earned.
Hold a baccalaureate degree (or US equivalent) from an accredited university or college.
Demonstrate a recommended minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent).
Submit a current resume or curriculum vitae.
Submit a written teaching philosophy statement explaining your perspective on what is important in teaching and learning which demonstrates strong critical thinking and writing abilities. Please limit the response to two typed pages.
Submit a signed (American Sign Language) personal statement about why you want to become a teacher. Please limit the response video to a maximum of three minutes.
Submit two letters of recommendation.
Entrance exam requirements: GRE required for students who have a GPA below 3.0. No minimum score requirement.
Submit English language test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, PTE Academic), if required. Details are below.
