The Master of Education in Secondary Education (M.Ed.) cultivates skilled educators who engage in thoughtful practice and contribute to advancing teaching excellence and school improvement. This program features a curriculum grounded in educational standards, practical experience, and research-based inquiry, utilizing modern technology to blend subject knowledge with teaching methods. Through an electronic portfolio evaluation approach, university instructors and mentor educators support candidates in developing professional expertise, abilities, and attitudes.
Hawaii Pacific University's M.Ed. in Secondary Education equips future teachers to become capable, compassionate, and dedicated professionals through interactive classroom learning and hands-on teaching experiences. Students benefit from intimate class sizes and personalized guidance from faculty and mentoring educators.
Graduate candidates undertake 450 hours of supervised teaching during a single term. School assignments consider multiple aspects: educational approach, the candidate's current employment at the institution, residential proximity to the school, accessibility relative to other work commitments, and similar factors. We strive to ensure the teaching practice is impactful, pertinent, and intellectually stimulating for participants. The program requires completion of ten foundational seminar courses in secondary education and subject-specific curriculum, plus two culminating teaching practicum courses, totaling 36 credit hours.
