The Master of Arts in Secondary English Education program caters specifically to middle and high school English teachers. Over this two-year cohort-based program, participants will: explore and apply cutting-edge English Language Arts instructional methods, with emphasis on progressive approaches and curriculum design, gain proficiency with educational technology tools, from online resources to digital platforms and one-to-one device integration, examine contemporary research on English Language Arts pedagogy and its practical applications, undertake hands-on classroom research projects, expand their awareness of educational policies, challenges, and debates affecting schools and English instruction specifically, cultivate leadership skills through professional organization involvement and conference participation. Coursework, activities, and projects are designed to help educators implement research-backed strategies and technology to enhance their teaching. Primary assignments focus on real-world classroom applications. The program culminates with an original research project where students investigate an English teaching or learning topic through systematic classroom study. Beyond becoming more skilled educators, graduates will be qualified for leadership roles such as department heads, literacy specialists, or teacher mentors, equipped to conduct professional development workshops, prepared for certain community college teaching positions, and ready for doctoral studies.
