RIT's women's, gender, and sexuality studies program offers an in-depth examination of how gender and sexuality intersect with science, technology, and creative fields to influence personal identities, social dynamics, and professional trajectories. This interdisciplinary field connects gender and sexuality with factors like race, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, geographic location, ability, and age. Through examining gender norms, sexual stereotypes, and cultural representations across diverse domains - including literature, legal systems, healthcare, education, arts, sciences, and technology - we gain insight into how gendered perspectives contribute to systemic discrimination against women and gender-diverse populations worldwide. Developing awareness of power structures and systemic inequities cultivates the understanding necessary to drive meaningful social reform across all aspects of life, from interpersonal relationships to environmental stewardship and technological development.
The study of gender encourages critical thinking to diagnose issues, broaden perspectives, develop innovative approaches, and cultivate inclusive spaces that foster advancement toward a more equitable, accountable, and environmentally conscious global community.
