A bachelor's degree in philosophy where you'll analyze intricate challenges, uncover and assess fundamental concepts, explore topics from multiple viewpoints, and articulate your perspective effectively. Many essential skills for academic and professional achievement—how to learn, apply knowledge in various settings, and convey understanding—are at the heart of philosophical study. Philosophy trains you to assess complicated issues, recognize and scrutinize core principles, explore subjects from varied angles, and express ideas clearly in writing and speech. RIT's philosophy bachelor's program offers a solid foundation in key philosophical areas, including philosophical history, ethics, and logical reasoning, alongside proficiency in another field, fostering innovative interdisciplinary exploration.
This philosophy program delivers a comprehensive foundation in essential philosophical domains (history of philosophy, ethics, and logical reasoning), along with a four-course concentration in a specialized area. You can also pair philosophy with expertise in another discipline (or even pursue a dual major) to engage in creative cross-disciplinary work. The program culminates with an optional senior thesis.
Through RIT's Bachelor of Science in Philosophy, you'll cultivate abilities via core philosophy courses spanning philosophical history, ethics, and logical reasoning. You'll select a focus area and complete four courses in that specialization.
Fulfill a professional core curriculum offering fundamental knowledge in a complementary technical or professional field outside philosophy. The Seminar in Philosophy (PHIL-416) explores an advanced undergraduate topic in philosophy. The optional Senior Thesis in Philosophy (PHIL-595) allows for integrating philosophical study with practical applications. The program is rounded out with philosophy electives, general electives, and liberal arts coursework.
