Environmental, health, and safety (EHS) encompasses the guidelines, legislation, procedures, professions, and initiatives employed by educational institutions, municipalities, corporations, and environmental firms to safeguard worker wellbeing and minimize ecological impact. This growing sector actively recruits RIT alumni for positions that serve workers, nature, and business interests alike.
RIT's Bachelor of Science in environmental sustainability, health, and safety combines two comprehensive disciplines into one versatile program. This degree equips students with thorough knowledge of:
Environmental Sustainability: Assisting organizations (including universities, school systems, municipalities, businesses, and consulting firms) in developing, executing, and promoting initiatives to make their operations, products, and sectors more ecologically responsible.
Occupational Health and Safety: Safeguarding employees from workplace dangers, injuries, health risks, and hazards across industrial plants, distribution centers, and production sites.
While these fields may appear distinct, most enterprises maintain integrated teams where specialists from both domains collaborate to benefit both human welfare (safety) and ecological preservation (sustainability). Environmental sustainability represents our collective duty to preserve natural assets and make eco-conscious choices. Companies hire sustainability experts to create, implement, and oversee environmental plans, policies, and initiatives that foster responsible growth. These encompass measures like optimized water management, restricting hazardous substances, adopting renewable energy, minimizing plastic usage, controlling deforestation, and other biodegradable alternatives. Organizations implementing sustainable measures not only benefit their workforce and neighborhoods but also make strategic investments that lower expenses while protecting ecosystems.
