Rice University's Economics doctoral program offers intensive instruction in economic theory and econometrics, equipping students for careers in economic research. The department introduced the Rice Initiative for the Study of Economics (RISE) in 2014 to strengthen its position as a premier hub for economic scholarship. This initiative has brought ten new faculty members to the department. Furthermore, Rice has become recognized as a top destination for structural empirical microeconomics, a methodology that integrates economic theory with econometric techniques to tackle real-world economic challenges. With roughly 45 graduate students and 24 faculty members, the program's intimate scale fosters meaningful mentorship, teamwork, and lasting peer connections.
