After earning a PhD in Civil Engineering, graduates will be capable of: Establishing a strong graduate-level understanding of civil and environmental engineering. Gaining in-depth expertise in civil and environmental engineering principles and utilizing them to solve complex technical challenges. Developing and executing independent research projects. Exhibiting professional communication abilities through both writing and speaking. Requires 90 semester hours beyond a Bachelor's degree or 60 hours after a Master's. Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) encompasses a wide range of study areas, providing students with multiple degree pathways. The undergraduate level offers the most flexibility, with options between the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) and Bachelor of Arts (BA) programs. The more technical BSCE features four specialization tracks, while the BA's two concentration areas allow greater adaptability, including opportunities for dual majors with other Rice University programs. Typically, doctoral programs require four to five years to finish.
