In general, applicants should have at least a 3.0(B) grade point average (or the equivalent) in their undergraduate work. Statement of Purpose

A cumulative minimum grade point average of 3.0 is required on the Bachelor's transcript. DMA applicants need to submit the Bachelor and Masters transcripts to complete their application , Expository Writing Sample , 2 - 5 programs attached to the application in which you were a participant during undergraduate study and/or the last two years Instrumentalists: Your repertoire list should include all solo, chamber, and concerto works that you have performed prior to application for the Artist Diploma. Vocalists: Your repertoire list should include art songs, arias, chamber music, orchestral works, oratorio, opera roles, and scenes that you have performed prior to this application for the Doctor of Musical Arts. Online submission of the preliminary files as directed on the application and as shown on the Audition page. Diagnostic exams in music theory and history. Each test is 2 1/2 - 3 hours in length and are online. Statement of Purpose , A live audition is required for Instrumental Performance and Vocal Performance applicants. Composition applicants must submit a portfolio of representative works and interview with faculty. All doctoral applicants must complete exams in Music History and Music Theory and provide a recent research or analytic paper , The Shepherd School of Music requires a score of at least 100 on the iBT for DMA applicants , 250 on the computer-based TOEFL, or 600 on the paper-based TOEFL. For students who choose to take the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) in lieu of the TOEFL, the minimum score is 7.0
