RISD provides two graduate programs in Jewelry and Metalsmithing: a two-year MFA and a one-year post-baccalaureate certificate. These programs foster artistic growth through intensive research, material exploration, and innovative practice. Our two-year MFA curriculum nurtures personal artistic development by focusing on deep inquiry, material innovation, and creative expression. Students create impactful work by examining their driving inspirations and participating in thoughtful dialogue with our vibrant community—both within the department and across disciplines. Complementing studio work, graduate seminars explore field-specific topics and contemporary art issues. Through readings, presentations, and excursions, these discussions connect conceptual frameworks with practical craftsmanship.
