The four-year Jewelry Metalsmithing BFA program presents both conceptual and technical challenges to guide students in developing and realizing design solutions with creativity and expertise. Instructors foster critical thinking and craftsmanship through demanding projects, curated readings, collaborative discussions, and by promoting innovative perspectives within the discipline. During the initial program year, second-year students master core design concepts, study ornamentation history, and acquire traditional goldsmithing/metalworking techniques. They simultaneously start cultivating their individual jewelry design methodology. Third-year students advance their technical abilities while exploring personal design directions, gaining proficiency in digital design tools, rendering methods, and foundational techniques in enameling, casting, and working with non-traditional materials.
