Pursuing a bachelor's degree in computer science at Rensselaer equips students to address practical challenges and conduct groundbreaking research. Due to our program's excellence and achievements, computer science has attracted the highest number of incoming freshmen among all majors for five consecutive years. Since 2018, we've grown to become the biggest department on campus, now serving more than 1,400 undergraduate students. As the most popular primary and dual major, our adaptable curriculum enables specialization in specific computing areas while offering exceptional chances for open-source contributions and participation in faculty-led undergraduate research.
Computer science explores the creation, evaluation, transmission, execution, and use of computational methods. Rensselaer's program develops students' abilities to tackle real-world applications while fostering research capabilities in computing. The curriculum establishes strong foundations in both theoretical concepts and practical implementation.
