Biomedical engineering is a modern engineering field that applies engineering concepts to human biological systems. The American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) provides a comprehensive introduction to this profession.
Rensselaer's Biomedical Engineering program ranks among the nation's earliest established BME departments. For more than four decades, we have educated exceptional scholars, corporate executives, and research professionals. The department has experienced significant growth recently and serves a vital role in preparing tomorrow's biomedical engineering professionals. Students working toward a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering can focus their studies in one of five specialty areas: Biomaterials, Biomechanics, Biomedical Data Science, Bioimaging, or Medical Devices.
