The civil advocacy and dispute resolution concentration allows you to examine the diverse approaches lawyers use to assist clients in addressing challenges and settling disagreements. You'll refine your abilities as an innovative negotiator, astute counselor, and compelling courtroom advocate. This program teaches both the principles and applications of alternative dispute resolution techniques like mediation and arbitration for reaching agreements without litigation. Most significantly, you can contribute to our mission of transforming legal practice into a restorative profession.
U.S. News & World Report ranked our dispute resolution program 14th nationally. The Center on Dispute Resolution provides exceptional resources including the Quinnipiac/Yale Workshop Speaker Series, professional training programs, and the student-led Society for Dispute Resolution. Through the center's initiatives, you'll gain practical experience working with field experts. Our award-winning competition teams offer platforms to develop advocacy skills through regional and national contests in mock trials, moot court, negotiations, mediation, and client counseling.
Following two semesters, you can apply classroom knowledge in our legal clinics or varied externship program. As a certified legal intern, you'll have opportunities to advise real clients, facilitate mediations, negotiate settlements, and present cases in court.
