Aspiring physical education teachers can pursue a bachelor's degree program that qualifies them for New York State Initial Certification (covering pre-K through 12th grade), with a focus on human movement, sports, and exercise science. This curriculum trains future educators to serve as movement experts for elementary students, athletic coaches for middle and high schoolers, and fitness professionals.
In addition to challenging coursework, participants gain hands-on experience through school placements, finishing with a full semester of student teaching. The initiative supports two cooperative programs with local NYC schools: Project SCOPE fosters collaboration between educators and university staff, while Project PATH aims to enhance wellness and physical activity among teens and young adults.
