The Department of Music within the Patti and Rusty Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance provides a Bachelor of Arts in Music with specializations in Music Technology and General Music Studies. This forward-thinking curriculum requires only 42-46 credit hours, enabling students to complete dual degrees in four years through the Degree Plus initiative (https://cla.purdue.edu/undergradci/degreeplus/index.html).
Students can opt for either the dual-degree path or focus exclusively on music. Music Technology graduates often enter fields like audio production, media scoring, songwriting, and broadcasting, while General Music Studies alumni typically advance to graduate programs in music scholarship, creative composition, or arts administration. Additionally, the department features a 21-credit Music Technology certificate and a 15-credit Minor in Music History and Theory. Various music courses are available to all students, covering subjects from musical analysis and creation to global music traditions and audio engineering.
