Foothill College's Music Technology Program (MTEC) delivers an advanced curriculum with practical training in digital media creation, aligning with current industry practices. This forward-thinking program bridges artistic and musical studies with scientific and technological applications, equipping students with valuable skills for today's digital economy. Beyond preparing students for bachelor's degree programs, MTEC readies graduates for various creative careers in music, technology, visual arts, and communications.
Specifically, the program trains students for roles in sound engineering, music composition, electronic music production, gaming audio, film sound design, media marketing, event production, digital distribution, technical services, business management, and other media-related fields. Students can earn an Associate in Arts degree along with specialized certificates in Music Technology, Pro Tools, Game Audio, Sound Design, Electronic Music, and Songwriting. Additional certification options cover Music Business and Music Therapy. These programs offer flexible completion through on-campus, online, or hybrid formats.
As California's most extensive program of its kind, Foothill's MTEC serves as a gateway to entertainment and media careers. Being an Avid Learning Partner, we provide top-tier Pro Tools certification, along with training in Wwise and FMOD - the leading game audio software tools.
The curriculum allows personalized study plans where students can complement core requirements with electives from music, media studies, visual arts, or computer science. This interdisciplinary approach lets students tailor their education to personal aspirations, with all musical styles encouraged. Our mission is to foster student success through skill development, passion cultivation, and dedicated effort. MTEC credits transfer seamlessly to California State Universities and many UC institutions.
Courses are offered with scheduling flexibility, including daytime, evening, and online options. Students enjoy access to Foothill's professional-grade recording facilities featuring Dolby Atmos technology, while also having the choice to complete all studies remotely.
