The Mathematics Department provides graduate programs for both Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Multiple Master of Science tracks are available, with some designed for industry careers and others serving as pathways to the Ph.D. program. The Computational Science and Engineering program offers interdisciplinary studies combining mathematics and computing. Earning a master's degree involves completing 30 credit hours, while the Computational Finance Program requires 34 credits. Neither written/oral exams nor a thesis are mandatory for these programs. Typically, students with half-time teaching assistantships finish their master's in two years. For the Ph.D., students must complete at least 42 graduate credit hours, pass written qualifying and oral specialty exams, produce a dissertation, and defend it in a final oral exam. Ph.D. candidates with teaching assistantships generally take four to six years to complete their degree.
