Since 1879, entomology has been a fundamental part of Purdue University and its College of Agriculture. While much has evolved over time, insects now play an even more crucial role in our world. With species vastly outnumbering all other life forms, insects present both benefits and challenges to human society. They also serve as valuable models for investigating broader ecological, genetic, and evolutionary questions. Our distinguished faculty conduct diverse research that opens doors to numerous fulfilling careers in entomology. We actively promote student engagement beyond traditional entomology boundaries, encouraging interdisciplinary research, university-wide leadership positions, professional growth, and global experiences. As a cornerstone of Purdue and its agricultural programs since 1879, entomology offers students chances to expand their horizons through cross-disciplinary collaboration, campus leadership roles, and involvement in the university's teaching and outreach initiatives.
