The Krannert full-time MBA accounting specialization differs from most other focus areas, as students interested in accounting typically pursue a Master's in Accounting rather than an MBA. With this in mind, our curriculum equips MBA candidates with essential business skills for careers in corporate finance, investments, operations, consulting, or entrepreneurship. Our financial accounting courses adopt a user-centric approach, teaching you how to interpret financial reports and make informed decisions. Similarly, our managerial accounting courses provide practical skills for designing cost accounting systems and leveraging their data for operational decision-making.
Our primary goal is to deliver accounting knowledge from a practitioner's viewpoint. The core Accounting for Managers course (MGMT 60000) emphasizes financial (external) reporting while introducing managerial (internal) reporting concepts. This foundational course covers financial statement interpretation, their interrelationships, and key aspects of financial data preparation. It also introduces managerial accounting principles, focusing on cost accounting systems and their role in business decisions. Our elective courses branch into either financial or managerial accounting specializations. The Managerial Accounting course (MGMT 60100) delves deeper into cost accounting methods, performance evaluation, and operational metrics development. For financial accounting, we offer specialized courses like Financial Statement Analysis (MGMT 60200), which includes practical valuation techniques. Following the core course, our electives are designed as standalone yet complementary modules that can typically be taken in any sequence.
