The Health, Aging, and Life Course specialization examines how societal frameworks and interpersonal dynamics intersect to influence health and personal growth throughout different life stages. Researchers in this field explore varied subjects such as pediatric wellness, substance abuse, reproductive health, intergenerational relationships, caregiving responsibilities, health disparities, and senior well-being. The program highlights theoretical frameworks spanning individual and societal levels, innovative research techniques incorporating statistical, observational, and blended methodologies, and active participation in faculty-led studies. Numerous professors and graduate students collaborate with Purdue's Center on Aging and the Life Course, which provides cross-disciplinary graduate studies in aging sciences and a combined Sociology and Gerontology doctoral degree.
