The Department of Nutrition Science serves as the foundation for cultivating the next generation of nutrition experts equipped to thrive in a globalized environment.
Through decades of research, we've recognized that dietary choices significantly influence the health outcomes of both people and animals. Nutritional health studies combine knowledge from multiple fields: biochemistry, physiology, psychology, food science, genetics, and cellular biology form the core of our nutritional understanding and its practical implementation.
The Interdepartmental Nutrition Program (INP) offers cross-disciplinary education for those pursuing nutrition science careers. With faculty from various departments contributing diverse specializations, students gain access to comprehensive learning experiences. Aspiring INP participants must apply through the Purdue West Lafayette (PWL) - Nutrition graduate program. Accepted candidates work with INP faculty advisors to obtain either a Master's or Doctoral degree, mastering multiple methodologies to solve critical nutrition challenges. During the INP application process, candidates specify their specialization by choosing from these focus areas:
Molecular and Biochemical Nutrition
Clinical and Human Nutrition Studies
Animal Development and Wellness
Community Nutrition and Public Health Initiatives
