Students pursuing a Ph.D. in English Education, while not exclusively, often aim for careers in higher education. Our program equips graduates with the skills to teach, perform research, or take on senior administrative roles across various higher education institutions, including both teaching-focused and research-oriented settings. Doctoral candidates collaborate with their faculty advisors to create a customized study plan that aligns with their academic goals. This curriculum consists of roughly 60 credit hours beyond the Master's level, covering subjects like language and literacy, research methods, and core college values such as social justice and culturally responsive teaching. Additionally, all candidates must pass a preliminary exam and produce a dissertation under the supervision of a faculty committee chaired by their advisor.
