Purdue founded the School of Engineering Education (ENE) in 2004, creating the world's first academic department of its kind alongside the inaugural doctoral program in engineering education. This program caters to students dedicated to in-depth research on optimal methods for teaching, learning, and applying engineering principles. Unlike typical instructor training initiatives, Purdue's PhD in Engineering Education Program and the expanding field of engineering education focus on foundational research about engineering pedagogy—establishing best practices, uncovering their effectiveness, designing curricula, evaluating student learning processes, and implementing these discoveries in future engineering classrooms. A master's degree program is currently being developed, while a Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning Engineering is already offered. Within ENE, you'll discover a passionate group of scholars pioneering the field's theoretical foundation (such as through NSF-funded Engineering Education Research Colloquies). Faculty and doctoral candidates collaborate across all educational levels (from early childhood to higher education and professional settings), with graduates securing positions in academia, industry, and professional associations.
