The interdisciplinary science major offers College of Science students a comprehensive foundation across scientific disciplines. This program integrates a primary science focus, an interdisciplinary core curriculum, a complementary secondary field, and the shared College of Science requirements, enabling students to examine how different scientific fields collaborate to address complex challenges. Participants personalize their academic path by choosing either a departmental or cross-departmental primary science concentration paired with a secondary focus that strengthens their main area of study. This secondary component can be an approved minor from any university department or a cohesive 18-credit course cluster. While primary options exist for each College of Science department, students can propose and develop cross-disciplinary concentrations as needed. Working with faculty advisors, learners may submit proposals for approval of their secondary focus areas.
This major provides students with extensive scientific knowledge while allowing deeper specialization in both a Primary Science Concentration and a Supporting Field, often from outside the sciences. While core requirements remain consistent, students tailor their program by selecting either a departmental or interdisciplinary Primary Science Focus and a Supporting Field from any university college. The College of Science offers primary options for each department, with opportunities to develop additional cross-disciplinary concentrations. The program recommends several Supporting Field possibilities while permitting students to propose and gain approval for alternative options.
