The interdisciplinary science major offers College of Science students a comprehensive foundation across scientific disciplines. This program blends a primary science focus, an interdisciplinary core curriculum, a complementary academic concentration, and the shared core requirements of all College of Science degrees, enabling students to examine how scientific fields collaborate to address complex challenges. Participants personalize their studies by choosing either a departmental or cross-departmental primary science focus paired with a supporting concentration that strengthens their main area of study. This secondary focus can be an approved minor from any university department or a cohesive 18-credit course cluster. While primary options exist for each College of Science department, students may propose and develop cross-disciplinary specializations with faculty or advisor approval.
This major provides students with extensive scientific knowledge while allowing deeper specialization in both a Primary Science Focus and a Supporting Area, often from outside the sciences. While core requirements remain consistent, students tailor their path by selecting a science-based primary focus (either within or across departments) and a secondary concentration from any university college. The program includes primary options representing all College of Science departments, with flexibility to incorporate emerging interdisciplinary fields. Suggested supporting concentrations are available, though students may propose alternative options for approval.
