Few industries remain untouched by the impact of computer science. Whether it's big data analytics, cybersecurity, mobile applications, or medical software, the work of computer scientists influences countless lives.
As part of Purdue's College of Science, the Department of Computer Science holds the distinction of being the world's first established computer science program. You'll become part of a tradition that has pioneered both groundbreaking research and practical industry solutions. Through this program, you'll master core computer science principles, equipping you to adapt as the field continues its rapid evolution.
This program focuses on foundational concepts in Computational Science and Engineering (CS&E). For students not planning graduate studies, Option 1 for electives is recommended, along with coursework in scientific disciplines to develop relevant software skills. Those pursuing advanced degrees should select Option 2 and complete these additional requirements: Physics laboratory courses, Math 35100 instead of Math 26500, vector calculus through Math 36200 or Math 44200, Math 36600 rather than Math 26600, and analysis via Math 34100 or Math 44000.
