The Civil Engineering program holds accreditation from ABET's Engineering Accreditation Commission.
Civil engineers are responsible for creating and building global infrastructure: structures and bridges, underground passages, water barriers and embankments, ports and waterways, water distribution and sewage systems, airfields, road networks, and railway systems, as well as conduits for fluids and energy transmission.
As an undergraduate in Civil Engineering, you'll have numerous options to shape your academic path and even greater possibilities to forge your career in this field.
You can investigate the nine specializations available in civil engineering while choosing courses to create a personalized study plan. With your advisor, you can align your academic program with your professional aspirations.
Hands-on laboratory courses in structural analysis, fluid mechanics, land measurement, and construction materials are available during your second and third years. Advanced studies involve 30 credits of specialized electives, enabling you to focus on your preferred concentration. These specialties encompass architectural, construction, environmental, geospatial, soil mechanics, water resources, materials science, structural design, transportation, and infrastructure systems engineering.
Capstone design projects involve practical applications through simulated scenarios. Recent examples include developing potential configurations for the planned US-231 bypass that would circle the campus to link its northern and southern sections. Another initiative examined elevating the basketball arena's roof to accommodate luxury seating. A separate project investigated repurposing designs for the Tippecanoe County Superfund Site Landfill. Students engage in these projects through all phases, from initial site assessment to financial planning and conceptual designs.
