The professional writing program incorporates aspects of technical communication, creative writing, and publishing. Those pursuing this degree typically have a passion for writing and take pleasure in structuring and delivering content across various media platforms. This major is recognized for developing specialized skills in digital workplace communication, exploring multimedia composition, visual rhetoric, user experience, emerging technologies, and both traditional and digital publishing, while fostering teamwork, civic engagement, and open-source initiatives.
Key competencies gained encompass effective verbal and written communication, professional document editing and design, data analysis and visualization, clear and innovative information presentation, and understanding writing's role in education, entertainment, and influence. Students can specialize in creative writing or corporate communication and are required to select a complementary minor for additional specialization.
