From its beginning, OPR has led the way in creating extensive new data sources to enhance our knowledge of global human populations, while pioneering advanced techniques for statistical, demographic, qualitative, and mixed-methods research. Current OPR initiatives include the Mexican Migration Project and Latin American Migration Project, which examine migration patterns from developing nations to developed countries like the United States (Massey). The Fragile Families Study has tracked nearly 5,000 U.S.-born children from vulnerable, low-income families for over twenty years (McLanahan). Other projects feature over 5,500 hours of recorded parent-child interactions to study early learning support (Espenshade), along with comprehensive health surveys in Guatemala analyzing illness factors and healthcare decisions, and research on elderly health in Taiwan (Goldman).
