The Molecular Biology Department's graduate program cultivates the intellectual growth of contemporary biologists. We embrace students from diverse academic backgrounds, providing an educational experience that extends far beyond conventional biology. Princeton's molecular biology community forms a close-knit, collaborative network comprising undergraduates, graduates, postdoctoral researchers, and faculty members with varied yet interconnected scientific pursuits. Graduate candidates can select from an extensive range of advisors representing wide-ranging interdisciplinary specialties and research goals. Our program empowers all incoming students to craft personalized academic paths with faculty guidance, tailored to their specific scientific aspirations. Students undertake research rotations with faculty across molecular biology and related departments (including chemistry, computer science, ecology and evolutionary biology, chemical and biological engineering, physics, and neuroscience). With support from the graduate committee, new students curate their curriculum from an extensive selection of core and elective courses spanning multiple disciplines. This unique blend of departmental unity, personalized mentorship, and customized academic/research plans creates the perfect ecosystem for graduate students to thrive as autonomous researchers.
To be eligible for admission to the Graduate School applicants must, before they are enrolled, hold a bachelor’s degree or its foreign equivalent from an accredited college or university. (Foreign equivalents may in some cases have a normal program length that is shorter or longer than four years. No degree that has a normal program length shorter than three years will be considered equivalent to a bachelor's degree.)
Admitted students who score below an 8.0 on the speaking subsection of the IELTS will be required to take an English placement test at Princeton.
Masters applicants who are required to take the TOEFL must score a minimum of 28 on the spoken part of the TOEFL in order to be considered for the program.
Application Deadline: December 1.
