The Mathematics Department's graduate program features flexible requirements alongside abundant research and learning possibilities. What sets us apart from leading U.S. mathematics programs is our early focus on independent research within the curriculum. Our diverse student body consists of highly driven individuals. While we encourage autonomous study and investigation, our graduate students maintain a strong sense of community. This fosters an environment that's both intellectually vibrant and supportive, with excellent mentorship opportunities. The department maintains close academic ties with the nearby Institute for Advanced Study (IAS), allowing students to interact with IAS scholars and participate in their seminar programs. While the standard timeline for completing a dissertation is four years, extensions may be granted when warranted. Our alumni consistently secure positions at top-tier academic institutions and within industry sectors each year.
To be eligible for admission to the Graduate School applicants must, before they are enrolled, hold a bachelor’s degree or its foreign equivalent from an accredited college or university. (Foreign equivalents may in some cases have a normal program length that is shorter or longer than four years. No degree that has a normal program length shorter than three years will be considered equivalent to a bachelor's degree.)
Admitted students who score below an 8.0 on the speaking subsection of the IELTS will be required to take an English placement test at Princeton.
Masters applicants who are required to take the TOEFL must score a minimum of 28 on the spoken part of the TOEFL in order to be considered for the program.
Application Deadline: December 1.
